The Chairman's Corner

GARRY ARANDA
SWAC Fire

Welcome to 2010! Well here we go again! Another year gone and another year in the works! Hopefully everyone was treated to a fruitful holiday season and things are looking up! One of the 2009 topics was to focus on the quarterly training sessions that are provided by the various vendors and support groups. These sessions are being provided to you, the membership at no cost, if you have something of interest that you feel will benefit the association feel free to contact us and we will see if it meets the needs of the association. On the same note if you know of someone that could benefit in attending one of these sessions and or the annual academy drag them along with you to the next meeting! I also look forward to seeing more of our associate members and your employees; In these lean economic times it is difficult to send all of your employees to each quarterly training session, but the benefits are there for everyone to reap.

Don’t forget to renew your membership for the 2010 calendar year!
Thanks and I look forward to seeing old friends and members at future meetings!

Happy New Year!
I hope each of you enjoyed the holidays with family and friends. The start of a New Year means the annual Academy is not that far away.
It’s time to start planning, and pick your classes. I hope to see everyone in Greeley this year.
As always, this is your Academy and each of us look forward to your input. I can’t stress enough how important it is for each of you to get involved. Tell us what you like, tell us what you don’t like. Together we can continue to excel!
Training Coordinator
Also, I would like to ask you to think about hosting a meeting and training class. Send us some training suggestions for our meetings.
Training Coordinator
Take care and above all be safe!

News from the Secretary

Well it’s here….2010. The dreaded time when all of these changes are put into play. It doesn’t seem to have hurt so bad yet but I realize I could be just speaking for myself. Look like the operation of the DPF has been figured out by everyone. Change is always a pain in the rear but folks seem to have a good handle on how & when to perform regens.
I’ve already been asked about Acad- emy classes. We will begin working on those in earnest starting this month’s meeting at Arvada Fire. We are going to do our best to get some classes in that haven’t been offered in the recent past but we still need you to do your part & sign up for them. So again if there’s something of interest, let us know. Be sure to join us @ Arvada Fire on Jan. 27th, 9am

Pierce on Schedule with Engine Testing
Dec 21, 2009 12:41 PM
Pierce Manufacturing announced that testing for its new 2010 EPA-compliant engines is on schedule. In recently completed validations on Pierce fire apparatus, the Detroit Diesel DD13 engine has demonstrated up to 5% better fuel economy than previous engines, while delivering up to 500 hp and 1,650 foot-pounds of torque on-demand, according to the company. The DD13 uses BlueTec selective catalytic reduction technology that, according to the company’s test data, reduces nitrogen oxide engine emissions to near zero. Pierce and Detroit Diesel have developed proprietary emissions components that they say will have virtually no impact to wheelbase, cab and compartment space.
