THE RAMBLER NEWSLETTER
Vol. 5-5 APRIL, 2007
The Chairman's Corner

Jay Powell
Denver Fire

Already April and we haven’t even taken a deep breath yet! Time does fly, especially when you stay busy like we have been. Chris Nelson, Ken Roland and I got back from Mexico on March 26, teaching a group of firefighters how to work on their engines, and hopefully that will be a continuing event. We had several very apt students, and they all were enthusiastic and hard workers. I think we could be of great help to them, and I hope they will continue to invite us to help them out. We actually had two days that weren’t working, so it was a good trip altogether.

We’re also starting up the Apprentice program, I am still looking for host departments to place these second year mechanics in and let them begin learning the intricacies of Emergency Apparatus. We all know that this is a pretty specialized field, and we have to continue to upgrade all of our mechanics, and try to bring new people into the field that are qualified and capable of continuing to provide the quality service we expect from first class mechanics. these students are the best of the class from Pickens Tech, and I would hate to miss giving them the chance to get into our field. Please contact any of the officers if your department will have any interest in getting a helping hand in the shop, and for a good price.

I got about fifteen membership renewals, and each of the rest of us should remember to put in an application with updated contact information. We are beginning to build a pretty good database of email addresses, I think that will be a better way to contact almost everyone we deal with, I know I have to check my email at least three times a week or it gets overwhelming.

We also have five members signed up for the academy. Be aware, we have a $100 late fee this year, so please get your registration in early. We need to have classes set before July first so we can keep getting the quality instructors you have come to expect. Don’t forget!

We’re coming into summer, always a busy season for fire departments, which translates into more work for all of us. This is a good time to take a minute and get your membership and academy registration in so you don’t get busy and lose your place. The flier is on the website, and we can email another copy to anyone that needs it. If you don’t have email, please send an address we can mail information to and we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop. Thanks in advance for helping us out, and again, See you in Greeley!!

News from the Secretary

Thanks to those that made it to the last CFMA Meeting @ Black Hawk despite the weather! We had a good attendance and lots of input from everyone. A special thank you to Sam for hosting and from BP to accept the last minute change to provide training and information on oil & fuel technology and their upcoming effects. As you know CFMA is involved in helping in getting things going in Mexico. Agreat point was brought to light. There’s some depts. around our own areas that may need some assistance in getting their equipment up to par. If you know of such instances, get that information to us to see where we can help! It may as simple as getting the right people together to exchange information to actually going out to lend a wrench & a hand. Our latest Mexico trip went extremely well. The group ofstudents we had were second to none with their work ethic and willingness to learn. Through a complete team effort, we were able to get some trucks back into play. There is a lot work to be done but they are headed in the right direction. Their desire to get things done was already in effect when we left. It was great to be a part of such a cool experience!

Thanks,
Ken Roland
Association Secretary

News From the Academy Coordinator

Larry Thompson

I would like to invite all members and all departments to attend the 20th anniversary of the CFMA in 2007. In 20 years we have grown, advanced and taken great strides to continue and build it’s success. It is our hope that our 20th year will be the biggest ever. We are working on some new and exciting event to commemorate this great achievement. We look forward to celebrating this event with all past students and instructors as well as new enrollees.....

The Barrie Niebergall Memorial Scholarship Fund has money available for scholarships that will help better fire mechanic's and fire engineers in the State of Colorado. The process for application is very simple. If there is a department out there that doesn't have money budget to send students to the Mechanics' Academy or other like trainings that are available to them, this is a good source of those needed funds. The money is basically there for the asking if some minor criteria are met. For more information call Chris Nelson at (970) 468-7544 evenings. Or e-mail at cnelson@co-fma.com. The time is fairly short so start the process now. Thanks
