Ralph Craven has worked in fire apparatus maintenance for nearly 30 years. Among his many accomplishments are: He is co-founder, officer, and investigator of the National Institute of Emergency Vehicle Safety. He is co-founder of the California Fire Mechanics Academy, and president of the Northern California Fire Mechanics Association; member NFPA 1901 Standard Committee.
James (Jim) Dorland is our basic electrical instructor with many fine achievements to his credit which include being the founding member of the Colorado Auto Teachers Society, life member of NJC Alumna Association & Vocational Industrial Clubs of America – Advisor of the Year - 1971 (Colorado). He also was named RE 1 Valley Teacher of the Year – 1988, President of Flatlanders Car Club – 1992 & is currently a Colorado Safety Team member of the National Street Rod Association, since 1988.
John Brunner has a B.S. degree from Utah State University. He was a Fleet Sales Manager for AC-Delco for at least fifteen years. John has developed and presented many hours of heavy-duty electrical training for organizations such as the California Fire Mechanics Association, Colorado Fire Mechanics Association, and the International Fire Chiefs Association.
Anthony (Tony) Bulygo started his knowledge base of fire apparatus at an early age. He has been gainfully employed in the repair of automotive equipment for 46 years, since the age of 13. Prior to his retirement in March of 2004, Tony was the Master Fire Mechanic for the Santa Clara County (CA) Fire Department and has 35 years experience in the diagnosis and repair of fire apparatus of all types and descriptions. Paul Hasty has two Associates of Applied Science degrees from Aims College: A.A.S Welding Technology A.A.S Welding Systems Management Advance study Colorado State University. American Welding Society (AWS) certified welding inspector and educator. 4 years as a welding instructor.
8 years industrial experience.
James T. Steffans has over twenty- five years of fire service experience in both volunteer and career service. In addition to his affiliation with EVS he currently serves as president of his own firm, JTS and Associates located in Bradenton Florida, which provides training, organizational and managerial services to emergency service agencies throughout the USA as well as in New Zealand and Australia. He is a founding member, secretary, director, and the Educational Coordinator of the National Institute of Emergency Vehicle Safety (EVS) and regularly publishes articles in a variety of national trade magazines. He served on the NFPA Apparatus Committee from 1988 to 1992.
Tom Carmichael started working at Stewart & Stevenson (Dobbs Detroit Diesel it was called back then) as a mechanic in May of 1973. He became engine rebuild and field service foreman from 1982 to 1986. He then became an instructor from 1986 to present with a 1 year gap in 2002 where he worked in the sales dept.
David Mathe is highly skilled in the private sector and has extensive experience in the Public Sector, specifically Public Safety. He has demonstrated leadership skills in organizational re-engineering, marketing, and finance. He has introduced private sector good business practices to Public Safety, focusing on Fire and Life Safety issues. Currently he is the Administrative Officer for the City of Arroyo Grande, CA. Division of Fire and Emergency Services. The City of Arroyo Grande and a neighboring community are consolidating resources to become cost efficient and a deliverer of premium Fire and Emergency Services. David Mathe is a collaborating member of the team for the efficient blending of the two organizations. Among many other things he is the department grant writer, Federal, State, and Private sourcing. James R Burke has worked for Drive Train Industries, in one area or another, of the family owned company since he was 13 years old. He has 20 years of experience with heavy-duty vehicle systems and components. He has completed factory-training classes provided by; Midland, Bendex, Wagner, Meritor/Rockwell, Eucild. He has been teaching air brake system classes, for over four years, for Drive Train Industries. Occasionally involving himself with field troubleshooting and accident investigation as needed.
Chris Nelson is the manager for the Fleet Services Division of the Lake Dillon Fire Department has been involved in the fire service since 1982. He was a CDL examiner for 7 years and has been teaching at the Colorado Fire Mechanics' Academy since 2001. He has been an engineer training instructor for the Summit Fire Authority since 1990. He is also a POST certified driving instructor and has been teaching crash avoidance classes for firefighters since 1995.
